"Exile, it’s late." she said. Exile tossed his black
cloak over his shoulder and turned around.
"I know. You should be asleep." he said. Kirol cringed at
his response.
"You should be asleep." she sternly said. "You
just got out of a severe battle."
"Kirol, for being with me so many years, you should know of my
stamina." Kirol was a little mad at his choice of reply.
"You were going to die...." she quietly said. Her tone shot
at Exile. Kirol leaned her head down and a tear ran down her face. Exile
walked over to her.
"You always are worrying about me, you know that?" He
tilted her chin up. Her eyes were moist from her tears. "Now, stop
crying."
"Admit it. You knew you were just a step from death." she
said, still crying.
"I was not..."
"Yes, you were, and you knew it." She grabbed his shirt and
buried her face in his chest. His shirt became wet from her crying.
Exile sighed.
"You’re right. I was just one move from death." he
silently said. "I’m sorry that I made you so scared." He
tilted her head up again. "Do you remember what I said the night
before we left?" Kirol nodded slowly. "That’s right. I
promised I wouldn’t leave you."
"It’s so hard to believe you sometimes, when you’re
fighting." Kirol said. "You’re playing with fire each time
you create your oversoul." Immediately, Exile wrapped her in his
arms.
"Stop saying that. I’m serious. I will not leave you."
Kirol flushed. Exile broke the hug. "I swear by the Great Spirit’s
eyes that I will not leave you." Kirol nodded. "Now, no more
tears." Kirol dried her tears. "Now, get to bed. We have a big
day tomorrow. I’ll be up in a bit."
"Okay." she replied, smiling. Exile cracked a smile and
walked to the other side of the inn. To his surprise, Yoh was standing
against the wall.
"A little harsh on her, don’t you think?" he said.
"How would you know?" Exile said.
"Anna acts the same way you do, only she would never ever hug
me. She is all business, but I know she loves me." Exile just
stared into space.
"Kirol is so innocent." he finally said. "I swore I
would protect her." Yoh smiled and walked toward him.
"I can tell. Protect her with everything you have."
"We should get to sleep." Exile changed the subject. Yoh
just smiled and walked back inside. Exile soon followed.
As Kirol walked around the opposite side of the inn, Anna was leaning
against the wall.
"Exile loves you." she coldly said.
"I know. But, I can’t help but worry."
"Just trust him. I worry about Yoh during every one of his
battles, but I could never show it. Oh great, now my secret’s
out."
"I won’t tell." Kirol replied.
"You better not. But, Exile seems like he knows what he’s
doing."
"You’re right. I’m being too doubtful." Anna walked to
the door.
"C’mon. Time to go to sleep." Anna and Kirol walked
inside.
