AK Gets A Job

AX City; the peaceful hub of many of the living things that exist in this fictional world. Today’s venture returns us to the ever-active block featuring the household of AK and his lovely girlfriend Shiore. Apparently the author has nothing better to do, so if you have the time, blame him for making such a story. I mean really, you knew this story would be weird from the beginning, so this is a warning. If you don’t like Japan for some bizarre and ridiculous reason, or you have some mighty hatred for interactive entertainment (for shame) or even don’t enjoy expressing your own freakin’ opinion, then begone! BEGONE! For the rest of you who enjoy having a good laugh, prepare for the second adventure featuring AK, Shiore, and friends. Consider this world rocked.

AK was lying down on the couch of his living room with an Xbox 360 controller gripped in his hands and a headset attached to his head. On the screen of his plasma-television was the flying corpse of one of the many combatants he was battling that day. He grinned maniacally before killing off another of the sad players.

"Pathetic." he said. The loud whining of the players echoed in his headset, irritating him to no end. Quickly annihilating another of the warriors, his own character was clenching a bright-glowing sword in its hand. "Behold my g0dly Halo 2 skills." He continued to fend off the n00bs as Shiore walked into the room.

"AK? What are you doing?" she said.

"Pwning n00bs on the Xbox Live." he said. "What else?" Shiore sighed before sitting down on the couch.

"Why don’t we have any food?" she asked.

"Because we ate it all."

"How exactly are we going to get more food?"

"Buy stuff at the AX City Pizza Place down at the corner. Thank goodness for power of pizza!"

"Where’s the money?" she asked, yanking his headset off his head.

"I dunno. I haven’t been to Rai’s today, so I wasn’t able to borrow any of his cash." he said, turning off the Xbox 360.

"Why not make us our own money instead of taking other people’s?"

"Because...um...uh...can I have a hint?" he said, sitting up. Shiore grabbed his shirt.

"AK, get a job." she said, partly smiling but at the same time seriously speaking.

"Why? The author gives us all the money we need! How else could we get this plasma screen and all the other stuff?!"

"Because the author is lazy and bored." she said. "Get a job."

"Uh, I think the author is watching, Shiore." he said, smiling.

"What’s the author gonna do?" she said. "Throw me out of my own house?" So, Shiore stormed out of the house into the suburban landscape of the outside. "You know," she said, "I really should’ve seen that coming."

"Fear the power of the author!" AK said. Shiore walked back inside. "Fine, fine, I’ll get on my laptop and look for a job." He picked up his laptop from the side of the bed and logged on to the internet. "Behold the power of Google!" he said, beginning to randomly search for job openings. Of course, he watched a Flash cartoon between every search or two. Shiore constantly looked over his shoulder to make sure he was working hard. "Why are you watching over my shoulder like some fierce, hawk-like empress of power?"

"What can I say? I love random Flash violence." she replied. AK sighed and found himself directed to a random job site. "AK, find a job you like. Something you’re good at."

"I play video games." he said.

"Write video game reviews, then. Don’t you read the gaming magazines or watch the TV?"

"But, wouldn’t that be intruding on the author’s job?" he said.

"Who cares? You need a job now." she said, glancing to the screen.

"Should I join some sort of magazine crew...or maybe..." he said, thinking.

"What?" Shiore asked.

"I could form my own gaming website."

"Go for it." Shiore said. "Just remember to be detailed, descriptive, and brutally honest."

"Yes ma’m!" he said.

"Don’t call me ma’m." she replied.

AK was able to purchase a domain name with the little amount of money he had, and even got a sponsored link from the legendary xanderc.com. His publicity was rising already, and he already had a few reviews ready to go. But little did AK know that the life of a professional game reviewer was not as easy as one may think...

"AK’s Gaming Site is up and running, Shiore!" he said, throwing his reviews into the air after uploading them. "Prepare for the advertisers to come running in! We already have the online legend, xanderc.com!"

"How’d you get xanderc.com on board?" she said, sipping her Mountain Dew.

"Not sure; the webmaster was very eager to support me." AK said. "He’s such a nice guy. Smart too, and he’s really cool and is an excellent writer. I bet his girlfriend is very happy...and beautiful, and smart."

"Okay, AK, enough. Show me your review." she said. The review was actually quite extensive. Each area was described in a well-done amount of detail. AK’s scoring system was rounded decimals compiled in four categories, five for the one RPG he reviewed. "AK, I’m so impressed!" Shiore said, hugging him.

"Yes!" AK said. "I am ready to be known the world over as the greatest video game reviewer on Earth! Mwahahahaha!" Shiore slowly backed away before hugging him after he sat down. "Time to let this thing loose." AK began clicking on the screen, in the end, uploading his review onto the website. "Okay, now we have to wait for a reply."

"So, what do we do till then?"

"Play video games!" AK said, running out of the room. Shiore grabbed his shirt before he could leave.

"But we never have any quality time together anymore." Shiore said, with huge, teary, anime eyes.

"Fine." AK said. "You can pwn the n00bs this time, and I’ll watch."

"W00t!" Shiore said, running to the living room. AK followed with a short sigh. He fell onto the couch, with Shiore holding the controller and staring at the screen. Immediately, many of the other players fell. AK took out his laptop and began browsing the internet while waiting for a response from his website. Shiore’s eyes didn’t leave the screen of the television. AK’s took a look at his e-mail. The inbox was filled with different messages. Many of them read "you roxxorx" "or "how could you give ‘insert game name’ a ‘insert score’ score?!" but others actually gave a good amount of criticism or praise. AK sighed a bit and tapped Shiore on the shoulder. She turned and hissed, but AK showed her the screen of his laptop. Shiore then dropped the controller and tackled him.

"You did it!" she said, happily.

"Aww, yeah, you know it." AK replied.

"I do." she said, kissing him. AK kissed back. "I love you." she said.

"I love you too, Shiore," he replied, "but you better pick that controller up or the n00bs will begin to attack." Shiore freaked out and continued playing.

So AK’s career as an online game reviewer began. Having to deal with bad movie games and sub-par sequels began as well, but he was always pleased to see a solid side-scroller like Alien Hominid (hint hint), a truly fun and atmospheric game like Shadow of the Colossus (HINT HINT), or a completely enjoyable game like Resident Evil 4 (oh, c’mon, buy the game already!). With the everlasting encouragement of his girlfriend and friends, his job was all the more enjoyable.

You. Review. Now. Go. Thanks.
